Starting a Community Garden

Participating in a local group serving community needs brings rewards on many levels. Realize you are not alone — there is strength in community, which leads to empowerment, action, and transformation. You become an integral part of the solution. Participating in a group can be rewarding, challenging, and uplifting; particularly when there is a spirit of care, respect, and love for one another.

Organizing on a grassroots level is essential to educate and engage the local population, who can then join with other communities as a collective force for reform. It requires skills in interpersonal relationships, and group dynamics. We provide support to help you develop all aspects of your grassroots group.

The Co-Act communities encompass a geographical area, hold regular meetings with a core group, take collaborative action, and educate and engage others in their local community. Locate organizations in your area; check to see if there is an existing group in your local area interested in affiliating with Co-Act. If you are part of an organization that would like additional support, sign up your existing group. If there is no similar group in your area we will support you in starting one. Sign up at the “Contact Us” tab.

The support we provide includes
• Useful community development tools
• Coaching and Organizers conference calls (for members only)
